Space roundabout, in the vineyards of Nantes

The locally nicknamed “rond-point de l’espace” (i.e., “roundabout from space”) is one of the most surprising and famous roundabouts in the world. Here, three astronauts have landed to take three local specialities back with them: a fouace (a six-pronged, star-shaped cake), a bottle of muscadet wine, and a Petit-Beurre biscuit. This futuristic scene was inaugurated in 1993 to show how far some would travel to get their hands on local delicacies. Both hated and adored, the gamble ultimately paid off and is now known worldwide and ranked as… the ugliest or most brilliant of roundabouts!
