With his raw and expressive portraits of characters in unexpected shapes and postures (gaunt faces, angular bodies, flayed skeletons\u2026) the artist presents figures that are powerful yet fragile, and somewhere between the abstract and figurative.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>For materials, he combines less traditional ones \u2013 like steel rods, concrete or burlap \u2013 with the more conventional stuff of sculpture. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>L\u2019Homme press\u00e9<\/em> (\u201cman in a hurry\u201d) represents a giant, 5-metre (16 ft.) hybrid of man, monster, and robot that walks with a determined gait, whose irresistible forward movement seems to stem from its incompleteness.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<\/div><\/section>\n\t<section class=\"VAN22_NOTE VAN22_BG_gris\"><div class=\"VAN22_LIMIT_SECTION\"><p>Thomas Houseago was born in 1972, in Leeds (England). He lives and works in Los Angeles (USA).
