Whether they\u2019re standing tall in squares, parks, or on top of public buildings, they watch us and communicate the messages and values their makers had imbued them with. But what would happen if they left their pedestals and shook up the town?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Olivier Texier devotes his time to drawing absurd illustrations and comics filled with bizarre and unreasonable characters. Armed with only a pencil and a battalion of sculptors, he plays a game of \u201ccopying\u201d some of our statues to a life-size scale of 1:1, thus freeing Generals Cambronne and Mellinet from their martial posturing. He also offers the feminine allegories of Nantes and the Loire a chance to come down from their monumental fountain in Place Royale and discover a city and river they\u2019ve been embodying for nearly 160 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.levoyageanantes.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Le-Temps-d-une-Pause_-Statue-du-general-Cambronne_-OliverTexier.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-73469\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\t<\/div><\/section>\n\t<section class=\" VAN22_BG_vert\"><div class=\"VAN22_LIMIT_SECTION VAN22_FOCUS\" style=\"text-align:center;\"><h2 class=\"VAN22_H_1\" class=\"VAN22_H_1\" id=\"statue-du-general-cambronne-1847-cours-cambronne\">Statue du g\u00e9n\u00e9ral Cambronne (1847), cours Cambronne<\/h2><p><strong>Debay, 1847, bronze, fondery: Quesnel \u2014 Paris<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the centre of a courtyard that now bears his name (after many names have come and gone with whatever political regime was in place: \u201cCours de la R\u00e9publique\u201d, \u201cCours Imp\u00e9rial\u201d or \u201cCours Henri IV\u201d&#8230;) this statue of General Cambronne represents the <em>grand homme <\/em>in his uniform as an Imperial Guard officer.
