Finally, when the idea of a paving a motorway here was eventually abandoned, nature had already taken over. The site came to be called \u201cLa petite Amazonie\u201d and is now a natural reserve with limited access. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The project for <em>P\u00e9age Sauvage<\/em> (\u201cwild toll road\u201d) came about while art collective Observatorium was trying to understand this natural enclave\u2019s raison d\u2019\u00eatre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Observatorium, a Rotterdam-based collective, tries to place brackets around our everyday life by creating spaces in which individuals can immerse themselves. Observatorium tells a story by using a \u201ccontemporary fairy tale\u201d: \u201cIf the project to build a highway ultimately allowed nature to flourish, our piece will allow it to take over urban spaces to an even larger extent.\u201d An impressive wooden sculpture represents a section of motorway that is both a public place and an observatory for this unique natural environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Observable artwork but temporarily closed to the public.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\t<\/div><\/section>\n\t<section class=\"VAN22_NOTE VAN22_BG_gris\"><div class=\"VAN22_LIMIT_SECTION\"><p>CREATED FOR ESTUAIRE 2012 AS PART OF A PUBLIC COMMISSION FROM THE MINISTRY OF CULTURE AND COMMUNICATION &#8211; DRAC DES PAYS DE LA LOIRE, ON THE OCCASION OF THE LPO&#8217;S CENTENARY.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>\t<section><div class=\"VAN22_LIMIT_SECTION\">\n\t\n\n\t<\/div><\/section>\n\t<section class=\" VAN22_BG_rose\"><div class=\"VAN22_LIMIT_SECTION VAN22_FOCUS\" style=\"text-align:center;\"><h2 class=\"VAN22_H_1\" class=\"VAN22_H_1\" id=\"la-petite-amazone\">La Petite Amazone<\/h2><p>This exceptional marshland has been certified as a \u2018Natura 2000\u2019 site.
