From the moment humans decided to conquer the solar system, their relationship to the Earth changed: worlds like our own might also exist elsewhere!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Since then, we have relentlessly sought to verify this by pushing the boundaries of the \u201cinfinite immensity of spaces that I know not, and that know me not,\u201d as Blaise Pascal wrote in 1669.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nearly a century later, the German philosopher Novalis mused: \u201cWe dream of\u00a0journeys through the universe, but is the universe not within us?\u201d This was confirmed on December 24, 1968, when the Apollo 8 astronauts witnessed and photographed,\u00a0for the first time, an \u201cEarthrise\u201d as seen beyond our horizon. William Anders, who\u00a0took this iconic photograph, later reflected: \u201cWe came all this way to explore\u00a0the Moon, but the most important thing we discovered is the Earth\u2026\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At a time when the climate crisis is wreaking havoc, INTERSTELLAR acts as a counterpoint to the history of space exploration and the utopias of the 1970s,\u00a0as epitomized by Charles and Ray Eames\u2019 iconic film Powers of Ten<\/em>, by asking a foundational question: \u201cWhat if we re-imagined Earth?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the immersive space\u00a0of the HAB Galerie, \u201cour world\u201d is transformed into an almost unknown territory\u00a0to be rediscovered through the works of twenty contemporary visual artists, photographers, videographers, and designers.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By intertwining the infinitely distant and the extremely close, each artist reveals not only alternative perspectives or fictional forms of planet Earth, but also redefines collective futures in the form of fascinating and unprecedented alternate histories. 
The goal is to move beyond Pascal\u2019s \u201cuncertainty of the eternity of [our] future condition\u201d and embrace new possibilities. <\/p>\n\n\n\t<\/div><\/section>\n\t
