Gloria Friedmann is as an astute observer of the world and our ecosystem, and for her new show in the generous concrete volumes of the HAB Galerie, she will be exhibiting a set of primarily recent and some previously unseen works.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Inspired by Tolstoy\u2019s 1886 novella How Much Land Does a Man Need?<\/em>, which tells the story of a humble Russian muzhik who meets his demise due to his insatiable appetite for land, Friedmann brings this tale of human vanity and greed into our present day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Have we not viewed nature as something separate from ourselves for centuries? A resource we could exploit without limits?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her works, which use a variety of media \u2013 sculptures, drawings, paintings, installations \u2013 seem to act as warnings. Like her piece, Cobaye <\/em>(\u201cGuinea Pig\u201d), where a figure made of clay and steel, is burdened with a head so massive it can no longer move, Friedmann\u2019s creations hold a mirror up to visitors, inviting them to rethink their lifestyle and relationship to nature.<\/p>\n\n\n
